The Future of Extended Reality

Last Thursday, March 26, the Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes had the pleasure of welcoming Pablo Pérez (Nokia eXtended Reality Lab), who delivered an insightful talk on the future of extended reality.

In a context where the hype around the Metaverse has peaked and is now being redefined, the session addressed a key question: what real value can extended reality offer in the years ahead?

During the talk, the concept of the “Realverse” was introduced—an innovative vision that proposes using extended reality as a tool to enhance human communication. This human-centric approach highlights the need for robust communication networks capable of supporting these new experiences.

The talk also explored the close relationship between human factors and technology, showcasing concrete examples of how the Realverse is being researched and prototyped at Nokia eXtended Reality Lab.
