VQEG (Video Quality Experts Group) - Monalis

November 27 to December 1, 2017, Krakow (Poland)

At the 2017 autumn VQEG meeting in Krakow (Poland), Jaime Ruiz of Nokia Bell Labs presented an overview of 3GPP 5G Video KPIs within Celtic-Plus Monalis, a project with GTI.

The presentation focused on Video Quality for New Communication Networks oriented towards media and entertainment. Specifically, latency as the one way transmission time of a packet between the transmitter and the availability of this packet in the receiver was evaluated and discussed. Low latency schemes (e.g. Video Real Time Latency < 50 msec.) open new fields for quality assessment and for codec evaluation. Although KPIs are already defined in the network layer, new KPIs at application layer for video should be agreed.

This activity of GTI is supported by the Spanish Projects IVME (Immersive Visual Media Environments) and Monalis (Monitoring and control of QoE in large scale media distribution architectures).
