International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience QoMEX 2024

The 16th International Conference on Quality of Multimedia Experience QoMEX'24 was held in Karlshamn (Sweden) from June 18th to 20th, 2024. Leading experts from academia and industry presented and discussed current and future research on multimedia quality, quality of experience (QoE), and user experience (UX). Thus, the conference contributed to excellence in developing multimedia technology, towards user well-being, and it will foster the exchange between multidisciplinary communities.

Several GTI members attended the conference. Carlos Cortés presented a paper, entitled “Engaging Yet Ineffective? A Video Coding Tool’s Impact on Learning”, on the assessment of new graphical tools for teaching audiovisual communications. Victoria Muñoz demonstrated a hybrid real-time experience, supported by Carlos Cortés and Narciso García. This demonstration, called “Real-Time Free Viewpoint Video for Immersive Videoconferencing“, allowed users to explore an immersive virtual scene with remote participants from multiple perspectives using the FVV Live real-time free viewpoint technology. QoMEX'24 attendees could interact with Matteo dal Magro, Isabel Rodríguez, and Javier Usón, who, although they were at our facilities in Madrid, appear to be inside different virtual scenarios. The real-time demo carried out over the internet was praised by experts.
