Day of Women and Girls in Science 2026

Today, February 11, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we would like to highlight Ana Maqueda, a former colleague and friend from the Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

Ana is a Telecommunications Engineer and PhD in Computer Vision, with more than 7 years of industry experience, having worked on projects focused on improving user experience in the retail sector and on the development of autonomous vehicles in the defense field. A strong technical profile that clearly shows the real impact of research when it moves beyond academia and into industry.

Beyond her professional career, Ana is always up for any kind of sports plan, although her greatest passion is basketball. She also enjoys analog photography, spending time in nature, and discovering new restaurants.

Role models like Ana are essential to inspire new generations of girls and young women to imagine themselves — and see themselves — in science and technology.
