VIBRA

Acute bronchiolitis is the most common cause of respiratory distress in children under 2 years of age worldwide. Its severity and prognosis are variable. Currently, there is no effective therapy except supportive treatment. In recent years, the evolution and development of Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning has led to an improvement in the processing and analysis of images and video that has demonstrated its applicability in medicine. Having a tool that helps establish the severity of bronchiolitis would improve the morbidity and mortality derived from this pathology.

VIBRA is a collaborative project between the Image Processing Group and the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid. Its aim is to develop an application based on Computer Vision and Deep Learning techniques using video captured from a smartphone that can help categorise the severity of acute bronchiolitis through Respitratory Rate (RR) estimation.
