International Summer School on eXtended Reality Technology and eXperience 

Great success! The International Summer School on eXtended Reality: Technology and eXperience hosted by the Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes (GTI) of the UPM has proved to be the place of reference for this novel technology.

The Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (ETSIT) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) was the epicenter of this exciting academic meeting. The event, which took place from July 18 to 21, brought together experts, professionals, and students from around the world involved in extended reality (XR) technologies.

The week was full of enriching activities. Attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of XR. The summer school featured a diverse and comprehensive program that included keynotes, hands-on sessions, poster presentations, and cutting-edge demonstrations.

Leading international speakers, such as Mel Slater (Universitat de Barcelona) and Mar González-Franco (Google), presented the latest advances in the field of XR, addressing topics such as the creation of immersive virtual environments, the use of augmented reality in industrial applications, and the ethical and social implications of these emerging technologies.

Participants also had the opportunity to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams on practical sessions, promoting teamwork and the exchange of ideas. These activities provided a unique space for students to develop innovative solutions and experience at first hand the challenges and opportunities offered by the field of extended reality.

Jesús Gutiérrez (director of the summer school) and the rest of the organizing committee expressed their satisfaction with the success of the event and highlighted the importance of collaboration between different institutions, experts and students to continue driving the development of these transformative technologies.
