Arriving at the University (ETSIT)
-
Taxi
Be aware that there are several Universities in Madrid with all the schools
and departments "conveniently" disseminated throughout the city! You should ask the driver to go to:
Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación
(ETSIT)
En el Paraninfo (campos de deporte) de la Ciudad Universitaria
(Está situada al final del Paraninfo, en el único
edificio de pizarra negra)
-----------------------------------------------------
Translation:
Telecommunication Engineering School
In the Paraninfo (sport fields) of the University Campus
(It is located at the end of the Paraninfo,
in the only building made of black slate)
-----------------------------------------------------
- Underground
The underground station Ciudad Universitaria, on line 6 (grey), is
the closest to ETSIT (1 km away approximately). From here, there is a 10-15
minutes walk to ETSIT, but you can also take the bus routes 82, U or G, as
explained below. The bus stop is located in Complutense Ave., just in the way
out from the underground station.
- Bus
All the following bus routes share a stop just at the ETSIT. Ask the driver
for the "Teleco" stop.
Route 82 |
From Moncloa (start point at Meléndez Valdés
St., near Princesa Ave.). To return to Moncloa you have to take the bus in front of the Facultad
de Derecho, just at the other side of the sports area. |

Route G |

road (Eje Puerta de Hierro - Sinesio Delgado), Exit Ciudad Universitaria,
Complutense Ave. (going around of the sports area).
Once at the ETSIT
The buildings of the Telecommunication Engineering School are located on a
small hill overlooking the surrounding campus (Ciudad
Universitaria). You can also see a
pictorial view of
the campus showing the different buildings.
On leaving the bus, you will see a slope, that you
have to climb. A taxi will typically drop you half way up that slope, between
the two oldest buildings, which are grey and connected together by a fly-over:
Building A (now baptized "Sanz Mancebo") will be on your right when going up
the slope, and Building B ("García Redondo") on your left.
To go to the premises of the GTI-UPM, go past Building B to the newer
Building C ("López Araújo"), which is located further left, and look
for lab C-306 on the third floor.

ETSIT-C VRML guided tour
Thanks to the excellent work of some of our students, we can proudly offer
you a virtual tour of ETSIT's Building C, in which you will be guided to the
premises of the GTI-UPM. To enjoy it, you must have the following SW installed
in your PC:
- A Java-enabled MSIE (MicroSoft Internet Explorer). The JVM (Java
Virtual Machine) can be either the one from MS or the one from Sun, but
you can't use another web browser instead of MSIE, as some features of
our VRML tour won't work -- we're sorry about that...
- ParallelGraphics Cortona VRML client: a plug-in for the most
common web browsers which is publicly available
on-line.
- Our Java classes set, which are also available on-line, archived as
GTItour.jar
(328 KB):
- Download this archive to your local directory DIR
(e.g., C:\tmp). If you're using MSIE already, make
sure it saves the archive as DIR\GTItour.jar,
and not DIR\GTItour.zip, as it has an annoying
inclination towards the latter...
- Add DIR\GTItour.jar to your CLASSPATH
environment variable. This can be done, in MS Windows XP (in
other versions of MS Windows it's similar), through its menu
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel ->
System -> Advanced -> Environment Variables: if
you already have CLASSPATH defined, Edit it
and append ;DIR\GTItour.jar (note the
«;») to its current value; if not, create a
New variable named CLASSPATH with value
DIR\GTItour.jar (no «;» here).
Once you have your CLASSPATH environment variable correctly pointing
at our Java classes set, restart your now VRML-aware MSIE, feed it with our
interactive 3D model of ETSIT's Building C
and enjoy. At some points in the tour, floating menus will pop up giving access
to further multimedia information related to ETSIT or GTI.
