Forward error correction (FEC) for video content distribution

Coding schemes adapted to the characteristics of both the video stream and the transmission channel.

In scenarios where video content is distributed over IP networks, data packets are frequently lost or importantly delayed during transmission. This leads to impaired video sequences, which heavily degrade the quality perceived by end users.

Smart FEC generation schemes constitute a very efficient means to combat video degradation, as they enable a significant enhancement of video quality at the expense of relatively low bitrate overheads. To obtain these results, these strategies optimize the distribution of protection resources, considering characteristics of the transmitted video stream and the behavior of the channel.
